We feel like doing a ‘happy dance’ when we see how much our clients LOVE the results they get from laser hair removal.

Some of them tell us it’s literally life-changing!

To get the best results from anything we need to prepare. So how should you prepare for your laser hair removal session with us?

It’s not scary, or difficult, we promise! You’ll love having sexy, smooth skin and chucking out those razors, creams and waxes.

Let’s start with the all-important patch test and consultation that we do for all new laser hair removal clients.

The patch test and consultation

You can read here why we ALWAYS do a patch test. We’d ask you not to remove hair from the area you want treating and patch testing so that our experts can see the colour, texture and the way the hair grows. Sorry about that, but it’s only for the consultation and it means you’re one step nearer to having silky-soft skin and feeling great.

We’ll take your medical history – it’s all confidential, just like when you talk to your GP. We need to know if you have any conditions or are taking medication that might affect the treatment. It’s also your chance to ask any questions. All our team members are really friendly and they know you might be feeling nervous, but they’ll make you feel like a VIP.

Dos and don’ts before your laser hair removal treatment

Hair must not be waxed, threaded, plucked out with tweezers or removed with depilatory creams for four weeks before your appointment or between planned sessions. This is because we want as many hairs as possible to be firmly rooted underneath the skin. Don’t worry! You don’t have to look like a hairy monster because it’s OK to use a razor. In fact we encourage you to shave before an appointment. This will slice off the hair above the skin (be careful not to nick yourself!) but it doesn’t disturb anything below the surface. This means our laser can work its magic on the roots of each hair!

The laser gives out an intense beam of light that converts to heat when it passes through the skin. Next, it targets the melanin (the pigment that gives hair its colour) in the root of the hair and destroys it. Read more about how laser hair removal works here.

Now, the reason we like you to shave the area that’s going to be treated is because it’s better for the laser energy to target the hair follicle BELOW the skin’s surface instead of any hair that’s sticking out ABOVE the surface. Please don’t use bleach on the hair you are having treated either.

Don’t use a sunbed or lie in the sun for four weeks before your appointment or between appointments. It’s really important to apply at least SPF30 when you go out because the laser treatment does make your skin more sensitive for a while and there is a risk of burning. Also, UV light (even on a cloudy day) can cause changes in the skin.

Sorry, but you’re going to have to ditch the fake tan in the month before your appointment too. It all helps the lasers work more effectively.

The area you are having treated should be clean, but free from creams, moisturisers, body lotions and deodorants.

If you are planning to have Botox or dermal filler treatment, it’s best to leave at least two clear weeks between having them and laser treatment. Again, we can advise you in full at your one-to-one consultation.
