Laser Skin Treatment in Derby
What types of scarring can be improved by laser treatment?
A scar is a mark that is left when a wound or injury has healed.
A minor wound, such as a straight cut, will usually heal to leave a red line where new skins cells have joined the edges of skin together. It may be slightly raised and will usually get paler and flatter over the months and years. Because scar tissue does not tan, scars can be more obvious in the summer.
A keloid scar is formed when too much collagen (the protein in skin) is produced at the site of the wound and grows irregularly. A keloid scar is raised and can keep growing, even after the wound has healed.
Hypertrophic scars are also the result of too much collagen being produced at the site of a wound, but they are usually less unsightly than keloid scars because not as much collagen is produced and hypertrophic scars don’t keep growing beyond the edges of the original wound. They may continue to thicken for up to six months.
How can laser treatment help with scars?
Treatment with the M22™ laser machine in ResurFX™ mode is a non-invasive way of improving skin texture and appearance at the site of scars. It can also reduce any uncomfortable tightness and restriction in movement that can be caused by some types of scars in certain places on the body.
ResurFX™ uses a fiber laser and a very advanced scanner, which enables our trained technician to choose from more than 600 combinations of shape, size and density for optimal treatment. The laser can precisely target the scar and fire bursts of light energy into the skin layers to repair damage and resurface the skin. A special integrated cooling tip on the ResurFX™ handpiece keeps the treatment comfortable for clients.
