Laser Skin Treatment in Derby
What are thread veins?
Thread veins are also called spider veins. They consist of an enlarged vein just below the surface of the skin, from which other smaller, prominent veins branch off. They can appear anywhere on the body, but they are most often seen on the face and the legs. Thread veins are related to increased levels of the hormone oestrogen, which can result from pregnancy or taking the oral contraceptive pill. Sometimes they go away on their own about a year after giving birth or stopping taking the pill.
They may also occasionally occur in patients with liver or thyroid disease, but their exact cause is not known. Sometimes they are called spider angiomas.
How can IPL treatment help thread veins?
The unique technology developed by Lumenis allows our trained technician to precisely target light source and energy on to the veins only, without affecting surrounding skin tissue. The IPL creates heat inside the blood vessels, which closes the vein’s walls eventually causing the vein to fade away and disappear.
In many cases, improvement is seen after just one treatment, but full removal of the veins may take a few weeks as they slowly fade away. In the case of multiple veins, two or three sessions at intervals of six to eight weeks might be needed.
After treatment, the vessels may look slightly darker initially and it is recommended that you avoid hot baths and excessive physical exercise for one to two weeks. Clients report minimal discomfort for a few seconds when the light energy pulses on their skin. They are able to return to their normal activities straight after a treatment without any downtime.
How do I find out more?
Our trained laser experts can give you a detailed description of what to expect at an initial, no obligation, consultation. They will examine the area to be treated and take a medical history.
